CAMPUS CATALYST
HAITI
Campus Catalyst is an urban strategy for Port-au-Prince that addresses the disconnect between disaster relief and the permanent urban settlements that often remain for years after tragic events. Typical strategies of disaster relief programs often fail because they respond to singular issues such as housing, food or healthcare. Our project seeks to address the more complex problems that arise where these singular issues overlap.
The result of the integrated Campus Catalyst masterplan will be a community that is actively invested in its own education, job creation, environmental remediation, and civic strength. These precise but profound efforts would seek to address the myriad problems of disaster relief and poverty in general, while showing through example the value of high quality construction, sustainable energy systems, and community based growth. By providing essential services, and inserting civic infrastructure where it is most needed, the schools will empower Haitians to build back their own homes and lives while providing a framework for Port-au-Prince’s long-term development.
