An expansion of the existing Rwinkwavu Hospital, the new building designed by MASS will house operating rooms with all the necessary support spaces, a neonatal intensive care unit, Kangaroo care, and NICU mothers’ ward.

By utilizing stack vents designed to integrate with more public spaces, MASS was able to ensure airflow in interiors ward spaces. Simple construction methods and careful material selection allows the project cost to be limited to approximately $650 per square meter, significantly lower than the average health care facility cost. The major spaces are 100% day-lit, reducing the need for artificial lighting and thereby saving on operating costs.
